Natasha Khan, everybody.
Singing my feelings.
My brain has already left work and is sipping fruity drinks out of a carved out pineapple.
I hate finding out that the song that I just fell in love with is on an album that won’t be released for another 2 months.
But I’m still pretty excited for this.
Cayucas’ “A Summer Thing” has a lot of The Beach Boys’ bounce and echo, and a little of the melancholy, too. Thankfully, it also has a sense of humor.
Bought this album today.
This is the album for summer. New favorite!
Wilderness - Bat for Lashes
Jesus. Apparently I got too indie in college and found The Boats, a band that I cannot for the life of me find anything about online now except for an old myspace page. I wanted to post one of their songs on here but youtube and whateverthefuck music service tumblr is using have no idea what I’m talking about (to be fair I’m pretty sure the only reason they’re on grooveshark is because I uploaded it ages ago.. but still jesuschristonacracker tumblr let me EMBEDDDDDDD). What sucks more is that it looks like there are two more bands now called The Boats so I may never find them again.
The song I was trying to post is 2 great actors here:

Go forth and listen to great indie circa 2000-2002 that is mostly about how much the lead singer loves his ex lady (and wrote an album to get her back).

D’ya ever play a song that for its duration made you forget everything else entirely?

I had been putting off listening to his solo work for no particular reason.
I see now this was a mistake.

There are few things I love more than Jeff Mangum’s voice. Its haunting and bittersweet melancholy makes my chest ache. And I love that most of his lyrics read like a surrealist painting. It’s a shame he stopped making music. Hopefully we will hear from him again.
Here is a link to one of my favorite songs by him (since grooveshark and tumblr don’t seem to get along together yet…)
Neutral Milk Hotel - In the Aeroplane Over The Sea
God, I remember when I first heard that song. I had a tape with Beulah’s When Your Heartstrings Break and Neutral Milk Hotel’s On Avery Island that Chris had made for me. I think he had found this song later and I put it at the end of this tape. I remember walking around UF playing and rewinding and replaying this song the fall of my freshman year. I liked NMH a lot before this song, but this, this was just love. I will never not love this song and it will always remind me of a beach and pier. Our beach. Now my beach.
